NIGERIANS AND OTHER IMMIGRANT'S PROPERTIES DESTROYED IN JOHANNESBURG

    Angry residents of a suburb in Johannesburg have burnt down houses and looted shops of immigrants in yet another xenophobic attacks on Sunday.They claimed that immigrants have turned the neighborhood into a drug haven and a red light district.Many may wonder what may have triggered these attacks after the last attacks on immigrants few years ago,fingers were pointed at the mayor of the town over statements he made which may have triggered the attacks.

          Early last December,the mayor of Johannesburg,Mr Mashaba told a media conference that illegal immigrants got there criminally and should be treated as such. On Friday, he visited Rosettenville where he made claims that foreign nationals were using girls as young as nine as prostitutes in 'drug houses'. According to reports,most of the brothels in the neighborhood belong to Nigerians and they have underage girls with no official documents working as prostitutes there.

    Police have arrested a man found in one of the houses that were set alight in Rosettenville.

The suspect, who is expected to be charged with arson and public violence,will appear in court on Monday.
