In 2003,Anna's zeal to succeed coupled with the need for more finances to cater for her family drove her into farming, basically growing cabbages, spinach, green peppers and also rearing chickens with the aim of selling these crops and animals to hawkers, however,Anna wanted something more out of farming, she wanted a breakthrough thus she began to seek for more knowledge on farming, she read books on her areas of interest and began to network with other farmers,it was through these that Anna met with a friend that will change her life forever, the friend that introduced her to pig farming.
Anna Phosa AKA celebrity pig farmer started her pig farming in 2004 with 100% from her savings with 4 piglets,it wasn't without challenges at first but her perseverance led her into more networking with other pig farmers through the provincial department of Agriculture at that time and she began supplying retailers around South Africa. In 2008 she got contracted by pick and pay (A South African supermarket chain) to supply 100 pigs per week, being satisfied with her delivery, she was asked to supply 200 pigs per week.
